Introduction to RFID
What is RFID?
Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, is a technology
that allows automatic identification and tracking of items and business
events. Through the use of micro chips and wireless communication devices,
RFID software and networks can find, read, identify, communicate and
assimilate item information. It can be applied within a facility, across
an enterprise, or throughout a global supply chain.
The Impact of RFID
RFID is already having significant impact on the
business landscape. Mandates by large firms and governments are moving
trading partners to join global implementations. Beyond compliance,
organizations also need to discover what will be the opportunities for
their own benefit.
A Critical Need for Education and New Skills To meet these challenges, institutions across all
industries must acquire the education, and develop the skills, to undertake
their own RFID programs. However, the rapidly growing interest in this
technology has produced a shortage of the knowledge and skills needed
for successful projects.
